Methodology, definitions and official sources
This calculator keeps different statistical systems separate instead of mixing their denominators or definitions.
- OSHA incidence rates: 200,000-hour base for 100 full-time equivalent workers. Official OSHA recordkeeping guidance.
- ILO occupational injury frequency and severity measures: 1,000,000-hour base; incidence measures use 1,000 workers. ILO Resolution on statistics of occupational injuries.
- LTIFR: lost-time injuries per 1,000,000 hours worked, aligned with the definition historically used by Safe Work Australia.
For valid comparisons, use consistent definitions, scope and reporting periods. A calculated rate alone does not establish whether safety performance is good or poor.
